Bulgaria’s 2024 road death toll is 479
A total of 479 people died in road accidents in Bulgaria in 2024, the Interior Ministry said on January 1, citing provisional data.
The 2024 road accident death toll is 46 fewer than the confirmed figure of 525 in 2023.
There were 7159 accidents on Bulgaria’s roads in 2024 in which people died or were injured. Apart from the death toll, 9046 people were seriously injured in road accidents last year.
In December 2024, there were 518 accidents on Bulgaria’s roads, that left 44 people dead and 678 seriously injured.
Bulgaria had the highest road fatality rate in the European Union in 2023, the European Commission (EC) said on October 10, citing final official figures.
Bulgaria’s 2023 road fatality rate was one per cent lower than in 2022, was 16 per cent lower than in 2019 and 18 per cent lower than the country’s 2017-2019 average.
