NSI poll: Business climate in Bulgaria worsened in October
A regular monthly poll by the National Statistical Institute (NSI), the results of which were released on October 30, has found a worsening in views of Bulgaria’s business climate.
In October 2024, the total business climate indicator decreased by 5.6 percentage points in comparison with September, with indicators down in all sectors monitored – industry, construction, retail trade and services.
The composite indicator “business climate in industry” dropped by five percentage points, a result of managers having more negative assessments and expectations about the business situation.
The poll found a decrease in the inflow of orders over the past three months, as the forecasts about export and production activity over the next three months have worsened.
In October, the composite indicator “business climate in construction” decreased by 2.2 percentage points, with managers unfavourable about the business situation.
The composite indicator “business climate in retail trade” dropped by 11.6 percentage points with managers reserved about the business situation and unfavourable in their forecasts about the volume of sales and orders placed with suppliers over the next three months are unfavourable.
In October, the composite indicator “business climate in service sector” decreased by 3.8 percentage points, with managers moderate in their assessments and expectations about the business situation and reserved in their forecasts about the next three months.
Previous recent polls by the NSI found a drop in the business climate indicator in December, followed by an improvement in January, sentiment largely unchanged in February and again in March, improving in April and again in May, before declining in June and again in July, followed by an improvement in August and a worsening in September.
