Bulgaria records 2.4% annual inflation in July
Bulgaria’s annual consumer price index (CPI) recorded 2.4 per cent inflation in July, down from 2.5 per cent a month earlier, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on August 16.
The monthly CPI figure recorded 0.8 per cent inflation, the highest month-on-month increase in the past 12 months, NSI data showed.
That rise was mainly due to a three per cent increase in services prices, while food prices increased by 0.1 per cent and non-food prices were down 0.2 per cent compared to June.
Compared to July 2023, food prices were 1.6 per cent higher, while non-food and services prices rose by 1.3 per cent and 3.9 per cent, respectively.
The harmonised CPI figure, calculated by NSI for comparison with European Union data, recorded an increase of 1.2 per cent compared to June, while the annual harmonised CPI inflation was 2.8 per cent, unchanged from a month earlier.
Food and beverage prices were 1.8 per cent higher in July, on an annual basis, while the price of utilities and housing rose by 2.4 per cent and transportation costs were 5.2 per cent up compared to the same month of last year. The three categories account for 49.2 per cent of the harmonised CPI basket.
