Bulgaria: New weather warnings as heatwave continues

Bulgaria’s national weather bureau has issued the Code Orange warning of dangerous weather for several districts for August 14 because of forecast high temperatures, the second consecutive day of the country’s latest heatwave.

The Code Orange warning has been issued for the districts of Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Pleven, Veliko Turnovo, Rousse, Blagoevgrad, Kyustendil, Pazardzhik and Plovdiv.

All other districts are subject to the lesser Code Yellow warning of potentially dangerous weather because of high temperatures, with the except of four classified Code Green, meaning that no weather warning is in place.

The four districts classified Code Green are Silistra, Dobrich, Varna and Shoumen.

For August 14, the forecast maximum temperatures include 40 degrees Celsius in Sandanski, 39 deg C in Plovdiv, Pleven, Montana and Vidin, 38 deg C in Rousse and Blagoevgrad. Capital city Sofia is set for a maximum high of 35 degrees.

The national weather bureau said that on Wednesday, it would be sunny, though in the afternoon it would be briefly become cloudy in western Bulgaria, with short bouts of rain in the mountains.

It will be sunny along the Black Sea. Sea water temperatures on August 13 were 26 to 28 deg C. Varna is set for a high of 32 deg C and Bourgas 30 deg C, according to the weather bureau.
