Presidents: Bulgaria and Malta share same positions on migration policy
There is a need for an active EU policy towards the countries of origin of migrants as well as for solidarity with the states that guard the external European borders, Maltese president Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca and her counterpart and host in Sofia, Roumen Radev, agreed in talks in Bulgaria’s capital on February 5.
Cohesion policy and social convergence are at the heart of the unity and success of the European Union, Radev and Preca agreed, according to a statement by the Bulgarian President’s office, released on the first of a two-day visit to Bulgaria by the Maltese head of state.
Preca is being accompanied on her visit to Bulgaria by representatives of the executive and more than 50 Maltese companies.
At a joint news conference, the two presidents called for a swifter alignment of living standards and economic development between the North and South and the East and West in Europe.
