European Parliament debates rule of law in Poland
The recent developments in Poland and their impact on fundamental rights as laid down in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU were the subject of debate in the European Parliament, in Strasbourg, France on Tuesday in connection with the ongoing Constitutional Tribunal crisis.
The Polish government’s attitude has improved but issues such as the Tribunal’s line-up, publication of its rulings and how effectively can it assess constitutionality are all subject of concern, the Vice-President of European Commission Frans Timmermans said, adding that a dispute with Warsaw over Poland’s top court has not been resolved.
