Hashim Thaci is elected the new president of Kosovo
The parliament of Kosovo on February 26 2016 elected, with 71 votes in favour and 10 invalid votes, Hashim Thaci, the current leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, to the post of the president of Kosovo.
Thaci was elected in the third round of voting after failing to win sufficient votes in the first two rounds.
The voting was contested by opposition MPs, who threw teargas several times during the session.
