Bulgaria’s Varna closes schools from February 16 to 19 amid flu outbreak
Health authorities in Bulgaria’s largest Black Sea city Varna have closed schools from February 16 to 19 2016 inclusive because of a rapid increase of influenza cases.
In the past week, there were close to 700 patients diagnosed with flu in Varna, the Regional Health Inspectorate said.
Health inspectors visited schools and kindergartens in Varna at the end of last week to check on the high rate of absences.
Elsewhere in Bulgaria, schools in the country’s second-largest city Plovdiv were closed from February 9 to 12 to counter the worsening spread of flu. The town of Stara Zagora declared a flu epidemic on February 5, with the declaration continuing into last week.
