Remembrance Sunday in Sofia 2015: ‘We shall remember them’

Ambassadors, military representatives, former service people and members of the expatriate community attended the traditional Remembrance Sunday service in Sofia on November 8 2015, honouring those who died in the wars of the 20th century.

Remembrance Sunday customarily is held on the Sunday closest to November 11, Remembrance Day, a date that initially commemorated the armistice at the end of the First World War.

The several countries represented at the service at the British and Commonwealth, German, Italian and French War Graves sections of the Central Cemetery in the Bulgarian capital included, among others, the United Kingdom, Ireland, United States, France, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Greece, Israel, Ukraine and Russia.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
