Bulgaria declares ‘Code Orange’ dangerous weather warning in 10 regions over rain, thunderstorms
A “Code Orange” dangerous weather warning was issued for August 20 in 10 regions in northern, central and southern Bulgaria because of expected rain and thunderstorms.
The warning covers the areas of Pleven, Lovech, Veliko Turnovo, Rousse, Gabrovo, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Haskovo and Kurdzhali.
Intense rainfall was predicted for these regions by the end of the day and into the night. Hail was possible, according to weather forecasters. The estimated aggregate amount of rainfall is 40 to 60 litres a square metre.
For the remaining 18 districts in Bulgaria, the lesser “Code Yellow” potentially hazardous weather warning was issued because of expected heavy rain, thunderstorms and possible hail.
