Thirty combat and support ships and about 1700 military personnel from Bulgaria, the United States, Turkey, Greece and Romania are taking part in the Bulgarian navy’s Breeze 2015 naval exercise from July 3 to 12.
Participating in the exercise will be two navy helicopters, a US patrol aircraft, and representatives of land forces and 21 state organisations and agencies and staff from four ministries, local government bodies, NGOs and private organisations.
The object of the exercise is to improve the level of training of naval personnel in planning and conducting maritime operations on a coalition basis.
The headquarters for the exercise will be at the naval base in Bulgaria’s Black Sea city of Varna.
Planning for the exercise began some months ago, with a two-day initial conference involving defence officials and senior officers from Bulgaria, the US, Greece, Romania, Italy that was held in Varna in February.
