Judge in Bulgaria’s Rousse arrested over alleged bribe
A judge at the Rousse District Court has been arrested on charges of allegedly receiving a bribe, Bulgarian National Radio said on February 15 2015.
Judge Nikolai Stefanov was detained in an operation carried out by State Agency for National Security agents and prosecutors from the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office.
The President of the Rousse District Court, Ventsislav Vassilev, confirmed that Stefanov had been arrested on February 14.
Stefanov has been a member of the judiciary since 1998 and has no previous record of complaints being filed against or being subject to disciplinary proceedings. He presides over criminal cases and is an assistant professor of criminal law at Rousse University.
