Work starts on revamp of Bourgas’ Sarafovo – Sunny Beach road

Bulgarian Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Liliana Pavlova presided over the symbolic start on September 24 2012 to a 6.5 million leva project to repair and widen the road from the Sarafovo area of Bourgas on the Black Sea coast to the popular summer resort of Sunny Beach.

The road will be widened from two lanes to four lanes, improving road safety and reducing congestion, Pavlova said. The first phase of the road reconstruction involves the stretch from Sarafovo to Pomorie.

Plans are for the revamped road to be ready in spring 2013.

Pavlova said that she had a long term plan for a bypass at Aheloy, but the estimated cost of expropriation of land for the road construction project was 20 million leva. Her ministry hoped to reduce this cost by land swop deals, Pavlova said, calling on local mayors to assist in the process.
