Poland’s ruling party backs parliamentary Speaker Kopacz as next PM
Senior members of the ruling Civic Platform (PO) Wednesday said parliamentary Speaker Ewa Kopacz was their choice to replace Donald Tusk as prime minister when he heads off to Brussels to take up a key EU post.
But President Bronislaw Komorowski said that for him the party’s choice of Kopacz, a long-time Tusk ally, “is not a binding decision.” He added that under the Polish constitution it is the head of state who designates a candidate for prime minister.
