Bulgaria’s Plevneliev congratulates Poroshenko on inauguration as president of Ukraine
Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev has congratulated Petro Poroshenko on his inauguration as president of Ukraine, the Bulgarian head of state’s office said.
Plevneliev said in a letter to Poroshenko that the people of Ukraine had made a decisive step on the path of their European and democratic development at the presidential elections held on May 25 2014.
“Ukraine opened a new page in its history in which democracy, the rule of law and the protection of human rights and freedoms will be guiding principles and holding a constructive dialogue – the only way to cope with the difficulties,” Plevneliev said.
“It is your vocation to lead the country towards long-term peace and stability and I believe that you will be the president-unifier, who will overcome confrontation and the splitting of society,” he wrote.
Plevneliev emphasised that the engine of integration is the only means to fight isolation and destabilisation and imminent decisive actions should be taken and reforms conducted today so as to restore the policy based on the law-governed state and the freedom of speech in Ukraine, the statement by the President’s office said.
Plevneliev reiterated Bulgaria’s support for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
“I believe that the large Bulgarian community in your country will continue to be a kind of bridge between our two Slavic peoples and a basis for developing and building on the relationships between Bulgaria and Ukraine,” Plevneliev said.
