EBRD prepares response to Balkans floods
The EBRD is stepping up its engagement in the Balkans to help deal with the aftermath of devastating floods in the region.
The sank will consider supporting the recovery of local businesses and the reconstruction of local infrastructure in the region. Support from the EBRD will be provided in co-ordination with other international financial institutions, it said.
The economic damage from the flooding may be substantial. Power generation has been reduced by 40 per cent in Serbia alone. The damage to roads and other infrastructure will cause major problems for the free movement of goods and people and is likely to affect small businesses across the region disproportionately.
