Sofia to begin repairs on Tsarigradsko Chaussee Boulevard on March 27
Sofia city hall has announced the traffic restrictions that will go into force on March 27 as a result of the planned repairs to the Tsarigradsko Chaussee Boulevard.
One of the city’s largest and busiest, the boulevard is one of the main thoroughfares linking the city centre to the heavily-populated Mladost boroughs (and, by extension, the Sofia Business Park), as well as the Drouzhba borough and the Sofia Airport.
The repairs will be carried out in several stages, starting with the overpass at G.M. Dimitrov Boulevard, known colloquially as the “fourth kilometre”. Between March 27 and March 31, traffic restrictions will be limited to only the left lanes, but the speed limit in the other lanes will be reduced to 40km an hour.
Starting April 1, all traffic will be redirected to one side of the boulevard (in the direction of the city centre), while the other side is being repaired. The restrictions will then flip on May 16, with all traffic passing through the newly-repaired stretch (in the direction of Mladost borough), while the other side is undergoing repairs.
The city hall said that repairs on the overpass on Alexander Malinov Boulevard – the location of both the main exit to Mladost borough and the exit to the Sofia Airport – will begin on May 15, but gave no details about the specific traffic restrictions.
