What’s On: Premiere of Rossini’s La Cenerentola at Sofia Opera and Ballet on March 20
Gioachino Rossini’s comic opera La Cenerentola premieres at Sofia Opera and Ballet on March 20 2014.
La Cenerentola, ossia La bontà in trionfo (“Cinderella, or Goodness Triumphant) was first performed in Rome in January 1817 and was written by Rossini when he was 25, following the success of The Barber of Seville.
The libretto was written by Jacopo Ferretti, based on the fairy tale Cendrillor by Charles Perrault.
It is the first time in 30 years that the opera is being performed at the Sofia Opera and Ballet.
The 2014 interpretation of the work is by director Vera Petrova, with Hristiana Mihaleva as costume designer, set designer Boryana Angelova and Grigor Palikarov conducting.
