Lawyer: Pussy Riot could be free by New Year’s Day

The jailed members of Russian punk band Pussy Riot may soon be free. The judicial collegium for criminal cases of the Russian Federation Supreme Court gave an opinion that the sentence carried out in the case of Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alyokhina and Yekaterina Samutsevich was unlawful. The Supreme Court issued the opinion on its official web site.

In addition, various media outlets reported Dec. 10 that the jailed band members as well as 30 Greenpeace activists could be released under an amnesty that will mark 20 years since the adoption of the new Constitution in Russia.
