2013 Sofia Marathon being held on October 6
Competitors from 18 countries will be taking part in the 2013 Sofia Marathon in the Bulgarian capital city on October 6.
The race, the 30th of its kind in Sofia, will see 250 athletes running the classic marathon distance of 42.195km.
About 540 people have entered for the 18km distance, and there are three and six km distances.
Winners of the men’s and women’s categories in the classic marathon distance will get 5000 leva. Overall prize money is 25 000 leva.
“I encourage local residents and visitors to join in this celebration. Weathermen promise good weather for Sunday , hopefully the drivers are more favorable about the closing of the streets,” Sofia mayor Yordanka Fandukova said.
Roads will be closed around the area of the marathon between 7am and 3pm, between Vassil Levski National Stadium and the bridge next to the National Palace of Culture, NDK.
The three km distance start will be at 9.45am, the six km at 9.50am, the 42.195km at 10am and the 18km at 10.05am.
