Unionists in Poland threaten general strike as talks end in deadlock

Unionists demanding improved conditions for workers warned they may stage a general strike and protests across Poland after talks with the government on April 24 2013 ended in stalemate.

“We have a stalemate at the moment and there will be a general strike and a nationwide demonstration,” warned Piotr Duda, head of the Solidarity trade union, after talks between unions, the government and employers failed to produce a compromise.

He did not name a date when unionists could stage a strike.
