‘Opera in the Park’ in Sofia

The third annual Opera in the Park is underway in Sofia, continuing until July 6 2012.

The venue is the park at the GS Rakovski National Defence Academy.

The 2012 Opera in the Park opened on June 10 with Tchaikovsky’sSwanLake.

Giuseppe Verdi’s Attila will premiere on June 22 at 8pm. Other performances are on June 23, 24, 28 and 30 and July 1 at 8pm.

Herman Løvenskiold’s La Sylphide is on June 14 and 15 at 8pm,  Zorba the Greek (music by Mikis Theodorakis) on June 16 and 17 at 8pm and Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore is on July 5 and 6 at 8pm.

The children’s educational programme features a musical tale of Little Red Riding Hood by Alexander Vladigerov at 11am on June 16, 17, 23, 24, 29 and 30.

“The festival has created a new tradition for performing opera music outdoors,” opera theatre director Plamen Kartalov said, Bulgarian National Radio reported. “The best thing is that no microphones are used.”
