Eurostat: Volume of retail trade in Bulgaria in August 2026 up 5.9% y/y

The volume of retail trade in Bulgaria in August 2026 was up by 5.9 per cent compared with August 2025, European Union statistics agency Eurostat said on October 6.

This is well above the EU average of 1.2 per cent and the euro zone average of 0.8 per cent.

Eurostat said that among member states for which data are available, the highest annual increases in the total retail trade volume were recorded in Sweden (7.7 per cent), Cyprus (7.5 per cent) and Estonia (6.0 per cent).

Decreases were observed in Malta (-2.4 per cent), Spain (-0.6 per cent), Italy (-0.5 per cent) and Germany (-0.4 per cent).

Bulgaria has seen annual increases in retail trade volume throughout 2026 so far: 4.2 per cent in January, 7.3 per cent in February, 12.4 per cent in March, 7.4 per cent in April, 7.9 per cent in May, 7.1 per cent in June and 5.6 per cent in July.
