Nato fighter jets down drone that entered Lithuanian airspace

Nato fighter jets intercepted and destroyed a drone that entered Lithuanian airspace, Lithuania’s President Gitanas Nausėda said on Facebook on September 15.

“I am truly grateful to our allies from Italy who have done their duty,” Nausėda said.

“As Russia expands its war actions against Ukraine, we can expect more such incidents,” he said.

“Therefore, we will continue to deliberately strengthen air defence capabilities and look for new ways to protect all Lithuanian people.”

Nausėda said that on September 6, a regular meeting of the State Defence Council will take place.

“Among other issues, we will discuss in detail the security situation, the priority of strengthening the air defence, the planned military acquisition. The greatest attention will continue to be paid to ensure the safety of Lithuanian people, Nausėda said.
