Eurostat: Bulgaria had EU’s second-highest increase in retail trade volume in April 2026 y/y
Bulgaria had the second-highest increase in retail trade volume in the European Union in April 2026, at 7.4 per cent, EU statistics agency Eurostat said on June 4.
This follows Bulgaria having had the highest increase on an annual basis in the EU in retail trade volume in March 2026, at 12.4 per cent.
In April 2026, among EU member states for which data are available, the highest annual increases in the total retail trade volume were recorded in Lithuania (8.9 per cent), Bulgaria (7.4 per cent) and Luxembourg (6.6 per cent).
The largest decreases were observed in Romania (-5.7 per cent), Belgium (-2.1 per cent) and Austria (-0.6 per cent).
In April 2026, compared with April 2025, the calendar adjusted retail sales index increased by 1.0 per cent in the euro area and by 0.9 per cent in the EU, Eurostat said.
