Bulgaria’s Defence Ministry: Planned rotation of US military at Novo Selo training ground underway

A planned rotation of personnel from the US contingent performing tasks within the framework of the Atlantic Resolve security assurance initiative is taking place from April 8 to 12 2026, Bulgaria’s Defence Ministry said.

Atlantic Resolve is a 2014 initiative of the US Army Forces in Europe and Africa, which aims to strengthen deterrence, increase Alliance readiness, and improve interoperability between US forces and allies in Eastern Europe, the ministry said.

The initiative involves US formations that participate in bilateral, joint or multinational exercises in the Baltic States, Poland, Romania and Bulgaria on a rotational basis.

A total of 625 military personnel will arrive at Varna Airport, from where they will be transported to the joint Bulgarian-American facility at the Novo Selo training ground.

The movement of personnel and accompanying equipment from Varna Airport to the Novo Selo training ground will be carried out along the national road network.

During the transportation, it is possible for columns of military equipment to pass, escorted by teams of the Military Police.

The Ministry of Defence asked the public and motorists to show understanding and follow the instructions of law enforcement agencies when encountering military columns, in order to ensure traffic safety.
