Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry warns of national strike in Belgium on March 12
A national strike will take place in Belgium on March 12, with significant difficulties expected in the country’s transport infrastructure, Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry said on March 11.
Zaventem Airport has announced the suspension of all departing and some arriving flights on that day, and Charleroi Airport is suspending all flights in both directions on the day.
Serious disruptions are expected in the operation of public transport (STIB/MIVB) in Brussels, as well as in the services of the Flemish operator De Lijn and the Walloon LETEC, the Foreign Ministry said.
The strike actions are also expected to have an impact on ferry services in the country.
The ministry recommends that Bulgarian citizens residing in Belgium or planning a trip to the country on the day of the strike inform themselves about the current transport situation in real time through the websites of Zaventem Airport ( https://www.brusselsairport.be/en/passengers ), Charleroi Airport ( https://www.brussels-charleroi-airport.com/en ), the National Railway Company NMBS/SNCB ( https://www.belgiantrain.be/en/ ), the public transport platforms: ( https://www.stib-mivb.be/home , https://www.delijn.be , and https://www.letec.be/ ), as well as the Eurostar website ( https://www.eurostar.com/be-en ).
“We advise, if possible, to plan alternative modes of transport,” the ministry said.
