Another record year for EU tourism in 2025, Eurostat says

The year 2025 was another record-setting one for EU tourism, with nearly 3.1 billion nights spent in tourist accommodation establishments across the EU. This reflects a 2.2 per cent increase, or 66.4 million more nights than in 2024. 

Nights spent by international guests increased by 3.4 per cent (+49.7 million), while nights spent by domestic guests increased by 1.1 per cent (+16.7 million). 

Most overnight stays, 61.7 per cent of the EU total, took place in 4 EU countries: Spain (513.6 million), Italy (476.9 million), France (471.7 million) and Germany (442.1 million). In contrast, the countries with the lowest figures for tourism nights were Luxembourg (3.6 million), Latvia (5.0 million) and Estonia (6.7 million). 

In 2025, the number of tourism nights increased in 24 of the 27 EU countries. The largest increases were in Malta (+10.1 per cent compared with 2024) and Poland (7.2 per cent). In contrast, decreases were recorded in Luxembourg (-2.4 per cent), Romania (-1.7 per cent) and Ireland (-0.4 per cent).

In the fourth quarter of 2025, the number of tourism nights in the EU increased by 3.0 per cent compared with the same quarter of 2024, with increases recorded in 25 EU countries. 

The highest increases were registered in Ireland (+12.0 per cent) and Malta (+10.9 per cent), while decreases were registered in Romania (-4.6 per cent) and Luxembourg (-0.4 per cent).
