Sofia’s third Big Table event of 2026 to be held on September 19

The third Big Table event in 2026, in which a central street in Bulgaria’s capital city Sofia is transformed for a day for friends and neighbours to share in a friendly atmosphere, food, drink and music, is to be held on September 19 from noon to 10pm.

This will be largest Big Table (Голямата маса) event of 2026, in which 120-metre shared dining table will be set up on Veliko Turnovo Street, in the section between San Stefano Street and Vassil Aprilov Street.

The final Big Table this year will also feature a strong international element. Diplomatic representatives from Serbia and Brazil will join the Big Table to showcase the culture and flavours of their respective countries.

A highlight of the final programme of 2026 will once again be the “Banitsa at the Table” contest; this marks the third time the competition is being held, and interest in it continues to grow.

At previous events, over 50 homemade banitsas (traditional Bulgarian pastries) were entered in the competition, while at least as many others — though not entered in the contest — were shared with guests.

Later in the day, a three-tier cake created by pastry chefs Radi Stambolov and Borislav Ekzarhov (Gavrosh Gourmet) will welcome guests as a sweet treat.

As always, everyone is invited to bring homemade food or choose something delicious from the participating local businesses.

Visitors can use a reusable cup — available for a nominal deposit — with the option to either return it or keep it as a memento.

The event also introduces a special collection bin for expired medicines.
