Bulgaria offers condolences, help after 51 die in N Macedonia disco fire
Bulgaria’s leaders have offered condolences and help after a reported 51 people died in a fire at a disco in Kocani in the Republic of North Macedonia.
The fire was said to have been started by pyrotechnics during a performance, the BBC reported.
Bulgarian Prime Minister Rossen Zhelyazkov said that the fire was a huge human tragedy, and he offered his condolences.
“Bulgaria has already offered its help in the form of the treatment of fire victims. I have ordered full readiness for admission to the clinical bases in the cities of Sofia and Varna,” Zhelyazkov said.
The Bulgarian Air Force had been put on standby to transport those in need of treatment, he said.
Bulgarian Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev said that he had spoken with his counterpart Timčo Mucunski and expressed Bulgaria’s condolences.
“I expressed Bulgaria’s readiness that in North Macedonia, they can rely on fully for assistance for the treatment of the wounded, and also on specialized medical transport to our treatment facilities in case of need,” Georgiev said.
President Roumen Radev, who also expressed condolences, said that he was in contact with Zhelyazkov and Bulgaria was ready to provide medical assistance to the victims.
