Tests of Bulgaria’s civil defence sirens and BG-Alert systems postponed

The tests of the national early warning siren and voice announcements system and of the BG-Alert system for mobile phones that had been planned for October 1 has been postponed, Bulgaria’s Interior Ministry said on its website.

The reason is the situation in the Middle East and avoiding additional tension among the public, the ministry said.

The testing had been scheduled for 11am.

Similarly, in April 2022, Bulgaria’s Interior Ministry cancelled a civil defence siren system test to avoid panic among the public because of Russia’s February 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

Ordinarily, Bulgaria tests its civil defence siren system in several major cities, towns and settlements at the beginning of April and the beginning of October.
