Earthquake of 5.2 on Richter Scale in Macedonia felt in Bulgarian towns

An earthquake of 5.2 on the Richter Scale, six km east of Macedonia’s capital Skopje on September 11, was felt in western Bulgaria, including in high-rise buildings in Bulgarian capital Sofia.

The earthquake was at 4.10pm Sofia time.

According to provisional data of the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake was at a depth of four km, and its epicentre was about 170km south-west of Sofia. The quake was also felt in the town of Kyustendil in western Bulgaria, Bulgarian National Radio reported.

It was preceded by two other tremors of 2.8 and 4.1 on the Richter Scale, according to EMSC data.
