Bulgaria prosecutes UK expat over internet child porn

The District Prosecutor’s Office in the Bulgarian Black Sea town of Byala has lodged charges in court against a 52-year-old British expatriate for alleged possession and distribution of pornography involving people who appear to be younger than 18.

The Prosecutor’s Office alleged that the accused, identified in a media statement as Adrian T, living in the village of Bosilkovtsi in the Rousse district, used file-sharing to distribute online a total of 12 928 files, including graphics and video, in the creation of which people appearing to be younger than 18 were depicted, a crime under Bulgaria’s Penal Code.

The distribution took place between January and November 2015, the Prosecutor’s Office said.

The accused also is alleged to have had in his possession in three computer systems at his apartment in the village a total of 703 files, including graphics and video, depicting people appearing to be younger than 18.

The British citizen, who has been living in Bulgaria since 2012, has been remanded in custody. The District Court in Byala is to schedule a hearing.
