Remembrance Day services to be held in Sofia, Plovdiv
Remembrance Day services are to be held on November 8 in Sofia and on November 9 2015 in Plovdiv, the UK embassy in Bulgaria said.
To commemorate the sacrifice of those who have fallen during times of war, British ambassador Emma Hopkins will lead UK Services of Remembrance on November 8 in Sofia and November 9 in Plovdiv. All are welcome to attend.
The ceremony in Sofia will take place on Sunday, at the Commonwealth War Grave Cemetery, Sofia Central Cemetery. The ceremony starts at 10.50am sharp at the British Military Cemetery, and will be followed by services at the German, Italian and French military cemeteries. The Commonwealth War Grave Cemetery is the resting place of 160 British servicemen.
On Monday, a Service of Remembrance will be held in Plovdiv. The ceremony begins promptly at 11.00am, and will take place at the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery, at Plovdiv Central Cemetery – the resting site of 55 Commonwealth servicemen. Guests should arrive through the central entrance of the cemetery, where they could ask for directions to the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery.
Poppies are on sale at the British Embassy Sofia, British Council Bulgaria, Sofia Central Cemetery, Plovdiv Cemetery, and the Anglo American School in Sofia. All donations go to the Royal British Legion, which supports veterans, servicemen and their families.
