Ukraine’s Euromaidan movement wins Walesa freedom prize
Representatives of the Euromaidan protest movement that helped throw out Ukraine’s pro-Moscow government of Viktor Yanukovych were presented Monday an annual freedom prize of The Lech Walesa foundation at a ceremony in the northern Polish city of Gdansk.
Euromaidan received the award, worth $100 000 for “the consequence and determination shown by thousands of Ukrainians, who, despite the risks involved, expressed their pro-European and pro-democratic ambitions”.
