EU a danger to Europe: Hungarian PM
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán put in a defiant appearance in the European Parliament on Tuesday, the day before EU lawmakers officially castigated the government over its democratic record by adopting the highly critical Tavares report. He appeared resigned to the decision but blamed the “attack” on Hungary as the work of left-wingers and liberals.
“Your decision tomorrow represents a real threat to the future of Europe,” Orbán said. “The recommendations in the report infringe the basic contracts and call for the setting up of institutions not recognised by the treaties of union, which would place an EU member state under surveillance and guardianship… This is a dangerous path.”
