Hungary: Tribute to Holocaust victims
Tens of thousands are expected to participate in the annual March of the Living in Budapest on April 28 2013 to commemorate Hungarian victims of the Holocaust. It begins at 4pm on the Pest embankment at Margit híd (bridge). Public officials will pay tribute to the estimated 600 000 or so Hungarian Jews murdered during World War 2. Commemorations stared this week.
In the three months from May to July 1944 alone, more than 400 000 were transported to their deaths, mainly at Auschwitz, largely thanks to the efforts of Hungarian gendarmes.
