Cold weather, snow forecast for Bulgaria at the weekend
Temperatures in Bulgaria will fall under freezing point and more snow is to be expected on the evening of December 8 and on December 9, the national meteorology institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences said in its weather forecast for the weekend.
Cloudy weather will dominate on December 8, starting from the west of the country, but rain is expected only towards the evening, turning quickly to snow during the night, the forecast said. The temperature highs will be between 1C and 6C, reaching up to 8C-9C in the east, on the Black Sea coast.
Snow will start falling first in the mountainous areas of southwestern Bulgaria on December 8, where it will be accompanied by strong winds. Overnight, snow is expected to fall in other mountainous regions of the country.
On December 9, as temperatures fall across the country, rain in eastern Bulgaria will turn to snow, even as western Bulgaria is expected to get a brief reprieve from snow, the forecast said. The daily highs are expected to range from 2C-3C in the northwest to 9C-10C in the southeast of the country.
At the start of next week, more snow is to be expected throughout the country, with daily highs around freezing point on December 10, before rising slightly on December 11.
