Medieval fair near Assenovgrad takes place this weekend
The first Medieval fair takes place in the St. Anastasii area beneath the Medieval Assenovgrad fortress, near Assenovgrad, from June 22 to June 24.
It is organised by the Assenovgard municipality and the Association of the free reenactors in Bulgaria. Reenactor clubs from neighbouring countries are also expected to participate.
The fair will present arts and crafts, clothing, cuisine, weapons and armour, typical for Bulgaria and the other Balkan countries in the period 1185-1420.
Workshops will demonstrate various crafts, including tannery, candle making, basket weaving, cooking, production of weapons and chain mail.
Enthusiasts will reenact historical battles, and will hold tournaments in archery, javelin and slingshot.
There will also be lectures, music, games, an open-air museum and market.
