Major wine events in Sofia in June

The fifth Grand Austrian Tasting, which is to showcase more than 40 wines from all over Austria, is to be held on June 7 2012 from noon until 8pm.
The event, organised by wine importers Project-AW and wine.unlimited, offers guests tastings of wines, many of which have won prestigious international awards, a media statement said.
The wines include not only the latest on the market but samples from older vintages.
Wines on offer will include a number already well-known on the Bulgarian market, including Andorfer, Buchegger, Cellar Krems, Nehrer, Johanneshof Rheinisch, Sommer, Jurtschitsch, Markowitsch, Sepp Moser and Ott.
Cellar Krems will be showing a new product, developed for the United States market and available in Bulgaria since February 2012. For the second year, visitors to the Grand Austrian Tasting will be able to expand their knowledge of the ecology of wine by trying biodynamic wines from Sepp Moser and Jurtschitsch.
The media statement said that support from Austrian Wine Marketing, which has backed the event for the past four years, was extremely important and showed respect for the “small but quality” Bulgarian market.
The event is at Vestibule wine bar, 31 Buzludzha Street, Sofia from noon until 8pm. Tickets cost 12 leva on the day and 10 leva if bought in advance from http://www.vintageclub.bg/sybitiia/degustacii/grand-austrian-tasting-2012.html
The Balkans International Wine Competition is being held at the Grand Hotel Sofia on June 14 and 15 2012.
The competition is open to wine producers from all countries of the Balkan peninsula, according to the event’s website, and is one of the very few in Europe that do not follow the OIV standards and method of tasting and scoring wines, but lean closer to the Australian Wine Show model, allowing for a better evaluation of the competing wines.
The winners will be announced officially at a special awards ceremony, followed by a gala dinner, to take place on June 16 at 8.30pm at the Shades of Red restaurant, Grand Hotel Sofia. The awards ceremony and the gala dinner are open to the public. Tickets may be ordered by e-mail at: [email protected]
