Poll finds downturn in business sentiment in Bulgaria

A regular monthly poll by the National Statistical Institute (NSI) has found a downturn in business sentiment in Bulgaria in September, with the indicator dropping by 1.3 percentage points compared with August.

The indicators dropped in three of the four sectors polled – construction, retail and services, according to the poll, the results of which were released on September 30.

The largest drop was in the construction sector, by 4.7 percentage points, with managers holding worsened views and expectations about the business situation.

The indicator in the retail trade dropped by 0.8 percentage points, with retailers negative in their views and expectations about the business situation, and pessimistic about the volume of sales over the past three months and about the coming three months.

In the service sector, the indicator was down by 1.6 percentage points, with managers more reserved about the business situation over the next three months and holding unfavourable views about the demand for services over the next three months.

The industry indicator was up by 0.6 percentage points, with managers holding improved views of the business situation and favourable in their forecasts about production activity over the next three months.
