More drones, drone parts found along Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast
Bulgaria’s Defence Ministry reported on August 27 the latest batch of incidents involving the finding of drones or drone parts along the country’s Black Sea coast.
A team from the Varna Naval Base completed a reconnaissance and identification task for an unmanned aerial vehicle found in the sea eight nautical miles south of Kavarna, the ministry said.
Specialists have determined that the object is part of the tail of a drone.
After a report was filed about an object spotted in the waters of the Black Sea in Kamchia, another specialist team investigated it and determined that it was an unmanned aerial vehicle that was not carrying an explosive substance on board.
Both teams transported the objects to the Naval Base Varna, strictly observing safety measures, the ministry said.
Specialists from the Bourgas Naval Base were activated following a report of a spotted object about 1000-1500 m. into the sea, town of Chernomorets, Sozopol municipality, the Defence Ministry said.
On August 26, the Defence Ministry said that teams from the naval bases in Varna and Bourgas had completed four new reconnaissance and transportation tasks for unmanned aerial vehicles and parts of them that afternoon.
A specialist team from the Naval Base Varna completed a reconnaissance and identification task of an unmanned aerial vehicle located in the sea 2.6 nautical miles northeast of Cape Galata.
After the diving inspection, it was established that the nose of the drone with the engine was underwater, there was no explosive substance, and a small part of the tail protrudes above the water. The drone was towed to the Naval Base Varna, where it was removed from the water.
Two other teams from the Naval Base Varna identified and transported to the base the remains of a drone hull found on a beach in the Cabacum area near the city of Varna, as well as a drone wing spotted in the Golden Sands resort’s Laguna campsite.
A specialist team from the Naval Base Bourgas completed a reconnaissance and identification task of an unmanned aerial vehicle found on the northern beach of the city of Bourgas. On site, the team determined that it was a drone wing and transported it to the naval base.
Defence Minister Dimitar Stoyanov, speaking on August 26, said that most the drones that had been found on Bulgaria’s coast in recent weeks were Russian, and none was hazardous. However, the public is urged, on spotting a drone, not to approach it but to immediately alert the authorities.
