Foreign Ministry: Bulgaria supports the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Plan in Gaza

Bulgaria welcomes the announcement of the start of the second phase of President Trump’s Comprehensive Plan to End the Conflict in Gaza, supported by UN Security Council Resolution 2803, the Foreign Ministry said on January 17.

“The formation of the Peace Council, the Executive Council, as well as the appointment of a National Management Committee for Gaza, composed of Palestinian technocrats, are important steps towards stabilizing and reconstructing the region” the Foreign Ministry said.

“We emphasize the importance of implementing all points of the Plan, including the disarmament of Hamas, the provision of humanitarian assistance to all those in need, and the reconstruction of Gaza.”

The ministry said that Bulgaria’s former foreign minister, Nikolai Mladenov, who takes on the important role of High Representative of the Peace Council for Gaza and a member of the Executive Board, is a diplomat with extensive experience in the Middle East, who, as the UN Special Envoy for the Middle East Peace Process, enjoys the trust of all parties to the conflict and of international mediators.

“We support the implementation of the Comprehensive Plan and express our readiness for a possible national contribution,” the ministry said.

Bulgaria will continue to support efforts to achieve lasting peace and security in the Middle East, “and we are ready to discuss a constructive role for our country in the new initiative,” it said.
