In the wake of a changing world, the U.S. News & World Report has done it again: The publication came up with its “Best Countries Ranking”, which evaluates a total of 80 countries according to numerous criteria. Bulgaria landed on the 63rd place.

The U.S. News & World Report scored countries by presenting a survey with a set of 64 so-called country attributes to 21,000 people from all over the world. The participants assessed how closely each attribute should be associated with each country.

The main characteristics evaluated were Citizenship, Adventure, Cultural Influence, Entrepreneurship, Heritage, Movers, Open for Business, Power and Quality of Life. Each of these sections has a different value, depending on their significance.

Switzerland is the “Best Country” on that list. It got an overall score of 10, which is the maximum. Quality of Life, Citizenship and Open for Business are the categories which Switzerland is the strongest in, while getting very high evaluations in all areas, except for Power and Heritage.

The next “best” countries in this ranking are Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Sweden, the United States, Australia, France and Norway.

Bulgaria got the 63rd place with an overall score of 0.9. The country is relatively strong in the area Open to Business (4.9 out of 10), according to the ranking. In all other categories, the values for Bulgaria are extremely low.

In the Quality of Life rubric, Bulgaria got a score of 1.7 out of 10.

Neighbouring Romania is the 58th country on the list. Its Quality of Life score is the same.
