When National Geographic tells its readers about travelling, they listen. That is because hardly any other magazine has shown the world to readers like National Georgraphic has. That same publication is now saying, Bansko is the “best winter trip” for 2017.

The editor wrote, Bansko, the “Pirin mountain gateway”, was comparatively cheap and very popular with first-time skiers. According to the magazine, the latter applies to families as well.

It says, because of its snowmaking capabilities, skiing in Bansko was possible from mid-December to May. School holidays should be avoided, it reads.

The National Geographic editor was also convinced there is no need to “dress to impress”, telling readers to bring a warm, weather-resistant ski jacket and the usual skiing outfit, without exaggerated elegance. The publication is basically saying Bansko is not Aspen or St. Moritz.

Bulgaria has several skiing resorts, of which Bansko usually gets the highest ratings and even awards. It is easy to reach from Sofia. The other well-known resorts are Bodrost, Kartala, Panichiste, Borovets and Pamporovo.
