The Department of State in Washington DC is starting its next Green Card lottery, which is officially entitled “Diversity Visa Lottery Program 2018”.

Citizens of countries other than the United States may take part free of charge. Double entries are not allowed. The embassy says that spouses may apply separately and list each other as accompanying persons. Whoever has taken part in Green Card Lotteries before, may enter this one as well.

The chosen applicants will be announces online, after the registration period is over. The latter lasts from October 4 2016, at noon Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), which is 7pm Bulgarian time, until November 7 2016, at noon EDT, also 7pm in Bulgaria.

Instructions in detail are supposed to be on the embassy’s website soon.

Applicants who send the same photo they included in previous Green Card lotteries will be disqualified. The same applies to applicants who register more than once.

The US State Department said that no third parties need to be paid for anything. Also, no e-mails will be sent. This means, whoever receives mails, e.g. with invoices connected to any Green Card lotteries, can be sure they are fraudulent. Those should be ignored and deleted.

The US Embassy in Sofia even takes additional questions from anyone who has read the instructions. This is their mail address for this purpose:
