Sofia “Charity Concert”: Either Scam or Stupidity

Written by on September 10, 2016 in Culture, Leisure - No comments

Some two months ago, the “Peace for you peace for me” charity foundation announced a huge charity concert at Sofia’s Vasil Levski stadium, with Mick Jagger and many of his most famous fellow musicians. Last Thursday, they admitted neither Jagger, nor certain other big names would come to Bulgaria. Also, the event was moved to the Airport Park, an open air venue close to Sofia Airport.

Now the organizers are listing many artists, who, according to them, will come for the concert on October 1st, 2016. The problem is that the artists themselves do not seem to see it that way.

On its website, “Peace for you peace for me” says, Jason Donovan will be coming to participate. They are listing the Australian artist as “confirmed”. At the same time, Jason Donovan’s management just told Foreigners & Friends Magazine, that he will not be coming.

The tour calendars of several artists listed do not have any Sofia entries on October 1st, as of Saturday, September 10th, 2016 at 23:30 hrs. Bulgarian time.

In the meantime, is actually selling tickets for the event, with Jason Donovan, who will not be coming, for prices between 100 and 1,000 Leva (not a typo, one thousand).

There are two possibilities here: Either this charity concert is just a product of somebody’s fantasy. Or the people announcing it are naive enough to believe a concert of this magnitude can be organized within three weeks, including convincing artists to participate, even though they do not want to and have already rejected the offer.

Another weird aspect, to say the least: As we have reported before, the foundation is not saying what exactly the income (if any) of the charity event will be spent on.

All of this combined could point towards a huge scam, or it is the product of an impressive amount of stupidity.
