Neofit of Rousse elected Patriarch of Bulgarian Orthodox Church

Metropolitan Neofit of Rousse was elected as the new Patriarch of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church on February 24, following two rounds of voting in the electoral college representing all the dioceses and monasteries of the Church.

Metropolitan Galaktion of Stara Zagora, seen as an outsider because of the numerous controversies surrounding him, was eliminated in the first round. In the second round, Neofit was picked over Metropolitan Gavril of Lovetch.
