The latest Akamai State of the Internet Report is in. It is an in-depth study about the speed of the internet and other aspects in the field of connectivity, including network availability and the IPv6 adoption progress. The report, which is being published on a quarterly basis, lists and ranks the average speeds of internet connections in most countries.

As it turns out, Bulgaria is doing very well in this regard. The small country at the south-eastern tip of Europe is 20th in the worldwide ranking, with an impressive average speed of 15.6 Megabits per second (Mbps), which is quite fast.

Bulgaria’s average internet connection speed is a lot faster than the rather embarrassing values countries like Australia, Germany or Canada came up with.

The fastest connections are available in South Korea, with an average of 26.1 Mbps. Norway, Sweden and Hong Kong are pretty good as well. Switzerland is ranked 5th. The next five countries on the list are Denmark, Finland, Singapore, Japan and the Netherlands.

While Bulgaria is doing very well, its northern neighbour Romania is even better, since it got the 15th place in the list, with an average speed of 16.1 Mbps.
