“Moonlight” is the rousing tale of a young Black American, who lives in a rough neighborhood in Miami. The main character goes through the different stages of his life, exploring difficulties he faces with his identity and sexuality. He suffers physical and emotional abuse because of the latter.

Before the Academy Awards were given out, “Moonlight” was literally drowned in nominations. It ended up winning in the categories Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (for Mahershala Ali) and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Not only did this motion picture get all of these Oscars and many other prizes. It is also the first Best Picture winner with an all-Black cast and the first film about homosexuality to win in this category. Ali became the first Muslim to win an Oscar for acting.

This movie, which will convince almost everyone, maybe with the exception of homophobic and racist individuals, will be screened at the Sofia Film Fest, on March 10th at 19:00 hrs., at Cinema Arena DeLuxe, Bulgaria Mall. It is the Bulgarian premiere of “Moonlight”.

The Sofia Film Fest has become one of the most important film festivals in Europe, and it is definitely the biggest one on the Balkans. The predecessor of this festival was founded 21 years ago. For 18 years now, the Sofia Film Fest has been known in its present form, but it did grow during those years.

Hollywood greats such as John Savage and Rupert Everett will be part of the event in Sofia, presenting movies and signing autographs. Stunning films from all over the world, including from the host country Bulgaria, will be screened.
